We use ORACAL 651 sign vinyl — the same grade used for vehicle graphics — rated six years outdoors. Worth knowing: that rating is measured on vertical surfaces, and a bin lid faces straight up into the sun, so plan on a good few years rather than the full six. It's waterproof, UV-resistant, and shrugs off bin-washing, hose-downs and rough handling on pickup day.
No. The vinyl peels off cleanly without residue or damage. If a stubborn corner sticks, a little warmth from a hair dryer releases it easily.
In most areas, yes — labeling bins with your house number is common and often encouraged so bins don't get mixed up. Your bins usually belong to the hauler rather than to you, so the rule of thumb is simple: don't damage them and don't cover anything they need to read. Our decals do neither — they sit on a blank patch of lid and peel off clean. If your city or HOA has specific rules, check with them first; we're happy to adjust size or placement to fit.
Each set arrives pre-spaced on transfer tape with instructions. Clean the surface, peel the backing, smooth it on using an old gift card from that junk drawer, and pull away the tape — about a minute per decal.
The lid, or any smooth surface on the bin — specifically the shallow recessed rectangle toward the front, the part you'd look down on walking up the driveway. We tested this on a real cart: the molded body panels are lightly textured, and vinyl doesn't hold on texture long term — it lifts at the edges. The lid is smooth and flat, so the decal bonds properly and stays put, and it's what you're looking at right when you need to tell your bin from your neighbor's. One bonus: your bin's serial number and barcode or RFID tag are almost always printed on the body, not the lid — so putting your numbers up top clears them without you having to think about it. Glance at your lid before you apply, and if there's anything printed on it, work around it. A smooth front or side panel still works if your cart has one; just check it with a fingertip first.
